Chengdu boasts of 113 star hotels with capacity of 15970 guestrooms and 29934 beds. With affiliated traffic network by highway, railway, water and air. Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport is a national grade one airport with capacity for the biggest airliner in world. Chengdu railway station , the only special-grade station administrated by Chengdu Railway Administration, is the hub of Baocheng, Chengyu, Chengkun and Dacheng,etc. railways. As one of 45 highway hubs nationwide, Chengdu has convenient traffic as the core of radicalized highway network in Sichuan province. Optimizing tourist services: 240 travel agencies are in Chengdu, including 36 international travel agencies. In 2003, though travel market was shocked by SARS, 226,500 foreign tourists and 28,435,500 domestic tourists chose Chengdu with income of 101 million USD and 17.41 billion RMB respectively. Total tourist income reached 18.247 billion RMB. Tourism became a pillar business of Chengdu.
Cultural Historical Sites:
“Sichuan flavor diets” ranks No.1 in Chinese top four flavor diets covering three thousand varieties and hundreds of well-known diets. Taking advantage of savors, every Sichuan flavor dish has its own story and unique classical allusion featured by “one dish, one style; hundred diets, hundred tastes; well use with hot and spicy flavor” Well-known traditional diets, for instance: Ma Po beancurd, double cooked pork slices, boiled cabbage, have been popular around the world. One top of that, hundreds of small-size and exquisite snacks are favored by customers at home and abroad by means of exquisite workmanship, fresh color, grade taste and subtle shapes, including “Zhong’s boiled dumpling”, “Long’s meat dumpling” “Lai’s rice dumpling”, “glutinous rice dumpling” “Han’s steamed stuffed bun ” and “couple lung slices”, etc. In recent years, “Hot Pot” got booming and modified dietary convention of many places.
National treasure—Giant Panda
Slow-moving and little-silly giant panda is the national treasure of China as well as commonly natural wealth of the whole world symbolizing world peace and friendship. The World Wildlife Fund was established in 1961 taking giant panda figure in its emblem and symbol flag. Distributed in Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu province in China West, wild giant pandas amount to almost 1000, above 80% of which are in Dujiangyan, Chongzhou, Dayi and Pengzhou of Sichuan province.
Chengdu has several giant panda nature reserves: a national nature reserve Longxi—Hongkou nature reserve was in Dujiangyan, provincial Anzihe giant panda nature reserve in Chongzhou, provincial Heishuihe giant panda nature reserve in Dayi county.
Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, aiming to protect and reclaim endangered species giant panda, is the only giant panda breeding and research base in big cities around the world. Taking an area of 36.5 hektare, the base has well-equipped research center, modern delivery room, veterinary station and panda museum with exquisitely designed environment; the air is refreshing with the bamboo growing luxuriantly and flocks of wild birds flying around.
44 of which survived in delivery, and 39 babies exists now. In order to protect giant panda further, a semi-wild breeding zone simulating giant panda wild world. Due to supreme achievements in protection of giant panda, Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding was awarded World Top 500 granted by United Nations Environment Programme as well as “China Green Technology Award” and “Excellent Project in National Environment Comprehensive Control” and “national science population & education base”, etc.
