Traffic & Telecommunications
　　As the traffic junction in China Southwest, Chengdu has advanced traffic conditions: Shuangliu International Airport—the biggest airport in Southwest and ranks in 6th post across China regarding annual passenger throughput with over 70 domestic scheduled flights, 29 international scheduled flights; railway lines: Baocheng, Chengyu, Chengkun and Chengda; national highway: No. 317(Chengdu-Naqu), No.319(Chengdu-Xiamen), No.321(Chengdu-Guangzhou), No.318 (Shanghai-Chengdu-Youyiqiao), No. 108 (Beijing-Chengdu-Kunming), No. 213 (Lanzhou-Chengdu-Jinhong),etc.; highway: Chengyu, Chengmian,Chengle, Chengya, Chengguan, Chengnan, Chengwengong. One hour arrival can be achieved. 1st ring road, 2nd ring road, and 3rd ring road and surrounding highway, etc. trunk roads, all of which forms cobweb-shape traffic network. In 2004, mileage in highway open to traffic was 16606km, including 438km expressway. Road network covered all villages of Chengdu. 543,000 vehicles were in use, including 417,000 individual vehicles. Commercial passenger traffic mileage was 34.43 billion person-time*KM annually, and commercial freight mileage was 48.59 billion T*KM. Post and commutations business amounted to 8.66 billion yuan, total switchboard capability hit 5.97 million, wired telephone number accounted 3.838 million, mobile telephone number totaled 6.581 million. Chengdu was provided with leading communication advantage by its Internet center.

Public Facilities
　　With accomplishment of upgrading urban and rural power grids, Chengdu can afford enough power supply for need via all-ready supply network and facilities. In other fields: power supply capacity : 14.52 billion KWH annually; water supply capacity: 1.971 million T daily; natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas supply, natural gas supply: 2.6 billion m3 annually, benefited population: 3.469 million; highway pavement: 2279.4KM, total mileage of bus lines: 1161KM, bus amount: 4177, taxi number: 8804, enough supply in water, electric power and gas. All of them formed an advanced public service network to satisfy diverse needs in residence, manufacturing and construction.

Ecology environment
　　Guided by sustainable development strategy, Chengdu are constructing projects on sewage treatment plants and garbage disposal sites,etc. environment-protection infrastructures to control industrial pollution well; projects on natural forest protection, returning land for farming to forestry and grass, comprehensive ecology environment control and comprehensive water pollution control, etc. are on their way. Eight districts (cities/counties) are authorized as national ecology model zone, one city ranks in provincial ecology model zone, and application for environment-protection model city has succeeded. With excellent atmosphere environment: the annual average amount of days with below 100 air pollution index reaches 309; mean value in urban areas is 54.6 decibel; 99.8% drinking water is up to the standard; environment influence assessment is applied in all projects; 355 projects in industrial pollution timelimit treatment was completed with total investment of 370 million yuan. Newly-added landscaping area is 360 hectares ,and landscaping coverage percentage is up to 35.7%. Some key comprehensive renovation projects are being carried out successfully: comprehensive renovation for Shahe River, extended renovation of Funan River, water environment treatment in central areas. Construction and comprehensive renovation of Funan River initiates emergence of benefits on economy, society and environment more and more and shapes Funan River into the highlight in environment programs of Chengdu, which wins highly reputation at home and abroad and are honored “award on advancement on human habitat”, “award on local initial creation ” and “best model award”. Additionally, three projects were honored China Human Habitat Environment Model Award in 2004: comprehensive renovation for Shahe, flood control renovation for Jintang county and Ecology Campus Construction for Southwest University for Nationalities.

History
　　With over 2300 years history, Chengdu, the first city to be shaped in China Southwest, is among 24 historic cities across China. As early as the 4th century BC, Kaiming Dynasty of Ancient Shu Kingdom removed its capital here. And the city name Chengdu(literally meaning “becoming capital”) originally derived from “ shaped into a county in one year, a capital in two years ” recorded in removal of emperor Taiwang in Zhou Dynasty. In West Han Dynasty, Chengdu’s brocade business was well-known nationwide, hence Chengdu was so called “Jinguan city” and “Jin city”. Unearthed drawing title and stone of Western Han in Chengdu is very exquisite with abroad contents.

　　In February of 1989, economic & social development plan of Chengdu was authorized by the State Council to enjoy economic management right in provincial level as other 13 authorized cities.
